Steam Train, Dream Train

Steam Train, Dream Trainby Sherri Duskey Rinker
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Category: Hardcover

Age: 1-6+ years

Synopsis: “Steam Train, Dream Train” is another gem written and illustrated by Sherri Duskey Rinker and Tom Lichtenheld who brought us “Goodnight, Goodnight, Construction Site.” In this bedtime story, animals load up, play on, and eventually fall asleep on a train bound for dream time. The book features lyrical prose and beautiful illustrations.

Bilingual benefit: The text in “Steam Train, Dream Train” rhymes well with a very high level English vocabulary and a lot of onomatopoeia: a whistle blares, steam hisses, brakes squeal, and the train huffs and chuffs. The only reason that this gorgeous tale did not receive a 5 star rating is that, for non-native English-speakers, some of the language may be obscure and feel like marbles in the mouth when reading out loud. For a native English-speaker, this book, like its predecessor, “Goodnight, Goodnight, Construction Site,” reads like Shakespeare for little ones.

Availability in Israel: While this book is not readily available in Israel, it can be ordered online via Amazon.

Previewing the book: This book can be previewed on Amazon USA. (last checked 7/10/2014).

Lil guy: A regular read. Trains. Animals. Did I mention trains?!?

Mama: Highly recommended. I would buy this again and for a friend, especially for a train lover.
